The (Very Worthy) Winchester Hash House Harriers were founded at Worthy Down, Hampshire on 18th January 1984, and we’ve been running regularly—ever since!
We’re a friendly, family-oriented hash, welcoming runners and walkers from age 5 upwards. Whether you’re here to stretch your legs, enjoy the outdoors, or just earn that well-deserved pint at the end, you’ll fit right in. Dogs are welcome too !
🏃♂️ What We Do
We meet every Monday evening, with additional winter runs on selected Wednesdays—affectionately known as the “Wibbly Wobblys.”
Each hash begins and ends at a pub, where our volunteer Hares sets a trail for the group to follow. Trails usually include:
- A runners’ route (around 4–5 miles)
- A walkers’ route (around 2–2.5 miles)
- Plenty of checks, shortcuts, and opportunities for light-hearted confusion
The aim? Fun, fresh air, and finishing together for a social drink.
No Membership Needed
There’s no formal joining process—just turn up and take part.
We operate a pay-as-you-go run fee, which helps cover:
- Social drinks
- Occasional treats and rewards
Safety & Responsibility
Our Hares take care to plan and lay trails that are as safe and enjoyable as possible, helping guide you along the route
However, hashing is an outdoor activity with natural risks, and participation is entirely at your own risk. We do ask that all hashers:
- Look out for one another
- Wear appropriate clothing and footwear
- Use high-visibility gear and torches during darker evenings
- If you bring you dog make sure it is controlled and does not pose a risk to other hashers, other road and trail users, and livestock
A bit of common sense goes a long way—and helps keep everyone smiling and safe.
The Spirit of the Hash
We’re not about speed, competition, or taking things too seriously.
We’re about:
- Good company
- Keeping fit with a bit of adventure
- And a well-earned drink at the finish
If that sounds like your kind of Monday night, come along and give it a go.
On On!
